hi i have a old 85 bronco II that the rats ate the wiring up on..my grandson wanted it so i have remotely mounted the module then wired the green wire from the tfi to the coil.- the red to the + side of the coil and toggle switch and the black to ground..it ran fine for a little while then quit..the coil wont put out a spark anymore like it had when i was testing it before installing the tfi module.i tried several other tfi coils all doing the same thing with very weak spark..is it possible for 6 coils to be bad?..or am i doing wrong testing the coils by putting 12v to the +side and touching the - to a ground for a sec. it was putting out a great spark but now a very low spark...i was also wondering about the advance..i disconected the 3 wires going to the (eec) and was thinking of using a cable to control the advance will that work out ok?
How did you remote mount the TFI module? It needs to be properly heatsinked to a large piece of metal with many fins and plenty of airflow in order to not overheat. If you just screwed it into the firewall, or fender, or something like that, it has probably overheated and failed.
i have it mounted to a heatsink from a p/c proccessor on the radiator support with a opening to the grille area..it only ran for maybe 5 minutes when it shut down so i dont really think it over heated that fast..
