2011 Powerstroke big decrease in mileage

Whether this has absolutely anything to do with my situation, but this is what I observed.

I know the glow-plug light (on the dash) doesn’t light-up when the truck is warm. I know that when the key is turned to the ‘on’ position that the gauges go through a zero to full-scale back to zero again.

If the truck is started before the gauges get back to zero (me being in a hurry) the computer registered horrible mileage.

When I slowed down and let the gauges do their thing, before starting the engine, the gas mileage displayed, was back up to where I would expect it.

I can’t explain it. Maybe the computer needs to go through a check and when interrupted it “glitches” the gas mileage – OR – does it glitch the computer that displays the gas mileage (meaning the gas mileage really is “normal” but the computer is displaying it incorrectly low)?
Either way, when I slowed down while starting it, it gave me readings that I would expect.

I’m just passing along info. that I noticed in my situation. As everyone knows, everyone’s situation is different.
Thank you.
