Turbo Pedestal vs. HPOP

Turbo Pedestal vs. HPOP
I recently acquired a 1999 F350 with a 7.3, took it to be serviced at Ford. I was told I had to replace the Turbo Pedestal to the tone of about $1800. Well I didn't do this at this time do to being short on funds and being female, leary of shops, but now reading this forum I am wondering where the leak actually is. If its the pedestal do I have to place it and all the pipes etc.? or just the o-rings? I up to doing the work myself, but would like some suggestions on this matter. the valley has old oil in it at this time. all advice will be appreciated.

Run away from that 1,800 is way to much. Second there are o rings going from the pedestal to the block and pedestal to the turbo. Thats where I would start and then other place for oil to leak is at the EBPV, to rod that comes out of the pedestal to move the flapper in the exhaust housing on the turbo to help it warm up faster in the morning.
I would start with this Riffraff Diesel: Turbo Re-Install Kit - GTP38
Also I would clean out the valley of all the oil and then once its all clean see if you can see where the oil is coming from.
Also Welcome to FTE

Your best plan of attack is to clean the valley with some simple green and a garden hose.
After its good and clean lay some white rags in the valley front to back so that you can tell where the leak is.
Almost every leak in the valley is fixed with o rings or at most a new non serviceable plug
Report back with ur finding and we will get u fixed for much much less than the stealership
Oh and welcome to FTE

That is generally the problem when women go to a shop. I don't let the wife talk to techs in the dealership or independent shops. I pay the bill and just tell her to pick up the car, don't talk to anyone. Any important things, refer it to me.
What do they mean by "replace the pedestal". Are they buying a whole new one? About $720 for the pedestal and maybe $300 to install but I would like to see the entire quote
