my 5.4 along with my parents 5.4 makes a knocking noise. the ford dealers have said this is a known thing and is a lifter knock. when both truck were bought they did not make the noise but shortly after they stated. obvisouly ford knows some way to quite the engine. anybody out there know what the secret is? thanks
No secret brother, nor is it "lifters"...98% of the time it will be the cam phasers! Not terminal in most trucks but rather just an annoying noise. However some cam phaser issues can lead to top end carnage big time. You have two
choices...fix it or live with it. I chose to fix it and my after-market extended warranty covered all the repairs and the dealership picked up the tab for my warranty deductible. It fortunately cost me nothing however if you have no coverage...your looking anywhere from $1,200 - $2,800!! That's if you do them both. I did as I know sooner rather than latter they would both be bad.
Ironically...my after market warranty repaired the truck when ford themselves refused to on just about every complaint out there..lol weird.
