It started this winter and only does it when it's pretty damn cold - say below 20 degrees. Only does it when on the gas and varies from quite loud to not too bad. Any thoughts?
Perhaps someone, in the night, installed a turbocharger. We should all be so lucky!
But seriously, mine makes a squeak when it's cold. I haven't put any time into tracking it down, but my first thought is one of those dummy pulleys or tensioner.
I found some other posts on this and apparently this is not an uncommon problem. Most I've been reading say alternator but there are some mentioning pulley's as well.
Mine will go away after the truck warms up IF it's not very cold - this morning I had it for the whole drive but it was 6 degrees out too....
My alternator kind of howls when it's cold for a minute or two but quits when it's run a minute or two. For a whistle though, my T-Bird will do that any time if a Fram air filter is in it. Never found out why as it seems to measure accurately and it doesn't do it with Motorcraft air filters. Might be worth a look.
pretty sure my last air filter was a Wix. And not all that long ago. Can't swear that this didn't start before or after the Wix install. Had to be semi close though as I only started noticing the sound this winter and I know I put a new filter in last oil change which was almost 3k ago which would have been about 2-3 months ago.....
hmmmmmm.....
