I looks like it maybe too expensive to repair to me. Not that it couldn't. Here in MD when it reaches 75% of the value they total it.

Not to get off topic, but this is the exact WRONG thread to bring this up.

If he were in a smaller vehicle he likely wouldn't have rolled. In this situation there may very well have been little or no damage depending on how it happened.

Furthermore if he were in a passenger type vehicle, the standards for roof strength are MUCH stricter than they are in trucks over 8,500 lbs. Had he even been in an F150 with it's lower center of gravity and more rigid cab structure things would have been much less severe than they were in this accident.

Had Steve had family with him the unfortunate person in the passenger seat may not have survived it. This "nice big vehicle" may well have killed someone in this type of accident.

I love my truck, and I'm sure Steve does too. But make no mistake, there is no invulnerability in a bigger vehicle. Trucks do better in certain accidents, but far worse in collisions such as this.

The only thing I was saying is I'm glad to have a big vehicle around my family, as in MOST crashes, having a bigger vehicle around you GENERALLY makes you safer. Just trying to wish a fellow member good luck, not trying to start an argument!

Though I do agree to what Tom says if everyone can keep the thread civil that would be great.

On a lighter topic, I've already started the networking process on a new truck. We haven't heard back from the insurence company but I figured I would get the ball rolling on finding a new one to speed up the process. Things are going towards a new 6.7 right now. I gave my window sticker to a family member that is in the auto world, their dealer owns a Ford store too. That should be a good guide to go off for features and all. We'll see where it lands.

And thanks, Tom, for the reminder of just how much weight was trying to compress me in to an accordian I didn't panic until the truck started settling. Then it was 'I gotta get my @$$ OUT!'

As a good friend of mine always says, laughter is the best medicine.

You're right, I shouldn't have gone out in left field with that one. Not wanting to drag this farther off topic, PM sent!

Yeah, sorry about that. Was a bit of a sensitive subject for me considering what happened to my wife in July. Won't derail any further!

Almost identical roof damage/crushing as my '02. Pics in my gallery if anyone's interested. Glad your ok, I walked away as well. Hope everything works out smooth for you on the insurance end. The adjuster took one look at mine and said "What do you need for it?"
I had a check in hand three days later. Good luck.

Holy crap man! Sorry to hear about this. Glad to hear nobody was hurt!

Just curious -- what kind of tires were on your rig?

Looking forward to seeing your new truck and the radio install you do on it

Wow Steve sorry to hear about the truck but darn glad you made it out ok. Sure was a lot of damage to the cab. I wonder if that cap helped in this case to provide more surface area or hurt by focusing the weight to the front part of the cab. Anyway I hope the insurance company treats you right and really glad you walked away.

Mike - go back to page 1 and look at the first picture. Daylight under the cap = not touching the ground. The weight of the engine up front held the weight of the truck on the cab over the hill.

Jason - Continentals. I didn't get far enough to replace them I was going to get through this winter then get new ones next year.

Another thought - I was in 2wd. I never had time to think about going to 4x4. Once the sliding started everything else went out the window and my focus was stabilizing it, which obviously didn't work. I've never felt a vehicle react the way this one did. I do not understand why going around a turn to the left would cause the truck to rotate clockwise first? You would think the force of the turn would make the rear end go OUT of the turn, not IN to the turn. I can't explain it.
