I have the much hated heater problem where ac works great but heat in front works terrible. I know to that i am going to have to pull the whole dash to fix this. I was actually thinking about selling it but its just so nice and so much fun. Can someone give me direction about how to go about replacing this.
There are other options to pulling the dash such as this: Auto replacement part, blend door fix, Heat, AC replacement parts If you do decide to pull the dash depending on the year of you vehicle I have some pretty good instructions. PM me with your e-mail address if you'd like to have them and I'll send them to you.
I have a slightly diff problem, recently while driving, I wanted to leave the heat on low, but the speed setting for low, for heat or AC doesn't work. All other speeds are fine. Would this be a similar issue, or does the cluster for heating/cooling need to be replaced? As well the light for that cluster also have gone out, as well for the rear air control, both upfront. The backseat rear air control works fine and is illuminated.
The dash does not have to be taken out these days. Heater treater is awesome for showing you how to take the broken blend door out and putting it(NEW ONE) back in.
There have been some posts about using a dremel tool to open the plenum enough to get your hand inside to do the replacement but there are some other posts showing the use of a Knife blade soldering tip on a soldering gun to make a smaller and neater cut which would help when putting the panel back into the plenum. I would use the Knife blade technique as it would likely make a neater job and not look like a hack job when it's finished.

Do you have the manual hvac or the auto? If it is the manual it is likely that resistor pack for controlling the fan speed is going bad. I believe that is located on the plenum on the passenger side. The lights out could be bad bulbs that are replaceable.
