Unhappy BUTT HURT

Today I called Ford Customer Relations looking for the sob story department. I couldn't get past the girl who answered the phone. She sounded really sweet, but she didn't know what I was talking about. She kept offering me an extended warranty package, but she said it wouldn't help me with my current problem, because it is already broken.

Here is the deal:
I bought my first FORD. ...a used F250 6.8L v10 from a local dealer in December 2010. It was a high mileage rig (150K) but it is a REALLY nice truck. I was hoping I would get it paid off within a year then be able to start modding the hell out of it.

I made my first payment. ... and last Friday night, on the way home from work, I pulled onto the highway, the engine developed a really bad rod knock on #2 and #7. I mean, it is BAAAAAAD. I crawled home as gently as possible. I need a new motor. I have eliminated the following from the mix:

Plug pop= NOPE
Coils timing Detonation= NOPE
Exhaust= NOPE
Accessories;A/C, Power Steering, Waterpump, Tensioner, idler= NOPE
Timing Chain= When I tore the front off, the passenger auto tensioner was seized and I thought YES! thats the problem... = NOPE

#2 and #7 knock like crazy, and it gets dramatically worse if I disconnect the spark on #2. I am talking loud enough to sample, and use for a drum track in a death metal tune.

--Funny story about that... All the cylinders are firing and making power. When I disconnect the spark, I don't get a check engine light. I find that unusual... But, maybe there isn't a check engine light on this rig. ?

Anyway, doesn't Ford have somebody who I can talk into giving me a dramatic discount on a reman?

This is my first Ford truck, it only lasted me a month and I am looking for some sympathy. My other truck was a Toyota that was ten years old when I bought it, and I made that sucker last 13 years for me before I decided to upgrade. That little Toyota was still going strong when I sold it, and now I wish I still had it because I have to borrow a GMC Safari mini-van to get to work and back.

The dealer I bought it from can get me a motor for $600 less than list price, but I am hoping I can find some way to get it for a good deal considering the situtation.

Is there a rebate or some kind of special person I can talk to at Ford who can help me out with a better deal in a FORD reman?

I am not nearly as upset as all my friends and family for some reason. They are all about ready to blow a head gasket over this.

This truck is gonna be awesome when it gets the new motor.

If anybody has a pal at Ford who might be able to get me a sob story discount on a new FORD remanufactured motor, please have a heart and PM me, or have them PM me to get the ball rolling and get this beast back on the road.

Cheers

I'm curious...you buy a 150K used truck...and expect Ford to offer assistance in supplying a new engine??? How about hitting up the dealer you bought it from? If you've just made your first payment...you've only had the truck for 30-45 days.

You won't get any help from Ford. It's between you and the dealer.

Take the engine price they've offered and try and deal on the labor, unless you're replacing it yourself.

You need to go thru the dealer, they should stand behind the sale, at least a little!

yea 150K is alot of miles, and well beyond any type of warrenty Ford would offer..

sounds like you either got really unlucky or that truck had issues already that teh dealer didnt make you aware of.

either way, you best be ready to foot the bill on your own...

Not sure but sounds like a troll to me....7 year truck 150k miles and wants Ford to do something about it???? Then adds in about chevy and toyota??? If it's for real sorry about your luck...but like has already been said....it's between you and the dealer now....good luck.

No sob story here ... just the "butt hurt"

You purchased a high mileage truck with no knowledge of it's past maintenance history (or proof for that matter)?? And, expect Ford to give you / do something about an engine failure? That's not realistic at all.

Your arguement is with the selling dealer "if" they made any warranty statement regarding the trucks running condition. I'd bet that they sold it "as-is".

Caveat emptor ....

another option is to look for a used motor with low miles. i had to put one in my 01 last year. truck has 154k on it motor had 50k has 70k now. but i got it for a pretty decent price. 1500 or so plus install. if you shop around you will find there are some places that will warranty the used motor for quite a while. this one has a year warranty(over now but still better than 30days like some) there was a place about 45 minutes from me that were more money than i had but put lifetime warranties on their used motors. so do alot of shopping before you make a decision. and if you go through the dealer check the warranty. im under the impression that you get a 3 yr 36k mile warranty on some new parts through ford. good luck and don't let this turn you off to ford. its always a crap shoot when you get a used truck.

Thanks man. I am replacing it myself. The dealer is giving me their best price without taking a loss (I hope).

I was just hoping that I could find someone at Ford that would go "you know, we donate all kinds of money to some worthless causes... Maybe this poor first time Ford owner would be appreciative of a $1000 rebate on a new motor since he had the misfortune of being poor timing." *(hint hint)

Btw, I bought the truck for a fair price. So, even with the added $4k for a motor, it will be worth it.

I am definitely going with the new reman straight from Ford. Not used. Although, I have this compulsive urge to dismantle it as soon as I get it and make sure it is setup right.

The new motor will have 3 year unlimited miles warranty. Like I said, with the new motor, this truck will be cherry.

I have tons of toys. They last as long as you treat them well. [he who cannot be named on this site] only knows what the previous owner did to this poor thing.

With 150k miles on it it will not be cherry, there are a lot more wear parts than just the motor. Check around at some of the local engine shops or auto parts auto zone sells motors also.

another thought. my truck threw a rod. thats why the engine swap i mentioned earlier. now im replacing catalytic converter. havn't had the power i remembered from when i bought it since the new motor. but couldn't figure out why till recently when i lost all power. swapped the converter now the truck is everything i remember and more. just something else to watch for. engine issues are notorious for breeding other issues.

Thanks for the heads up. I will keep this stuff in mind once it is up and running, and if I have any problems.
