posi rear 9 inch

my 79 Bronco has barfed the posi again.I got it just over a year ago with the rear blown apart,,got a used unit in good shape fresh lube and modifier ,,,and played ,,last week it turned into a open diff,,as in one wheel drive..I know part of the problem is the 428 up front and the size 13 on the gas..I just figger it should last more then a year..all the plates were good, should I go to a locker because of the 33 inch tires and the brute at the front?

I would suggest a Detroit locker or a spool for the rear.

I don't think a spool is good on the street ,and others have warned me that a Detroit locker is gonna be violent on the street ,,my biggest worry is grenading axles or drive shafts .what are you running in yours..an' have you modified any of the driveline??

Detroit in the front and full spool in the rear is what i have, the rear is a 60 with 35 spline Moser shafts. 5.13 gears. You can really hear small tires chirping around corners, but my 37" boggers not so much. I dont drive it enough to really be all that worried about tire wear, but i know its there. I'd rather have a Detroit in the rear though...

so do you play with it??I have a bad habbit of breaking things..and the Bronco is a go-kart on the road ,,,I tend to push and play with the power and stress things pretty fast..I think..I don't know if it is just poor workmanship on my part or that the plates and clutches were worse then I thought....and thought I should upgrade to something stronger ..the cost of rebuilding the rear each year against a locker might mean the locker is the better plan..or would a properly built posi work better on the street for less money..

Personally I think if its street driven a lot that a good limited slip would be the best. But as far as toughness, a detroit or a full spool is gonna be hard to beat.

you either need to spend some serious money on that 9" upgrading to a 4 pinion support, aftermarket shafts and perhaps truss the diff. otherwise look into a D60 or 14bolt. also a detroit will offer you the most strength on and off road. with the power your pushing i dont see any LS really holding up.
