first off im talking about a 1994 f150 5 speed man. trans 4.9L straight 6. when i went to start it one day it was having trouble stating. it would crank but never turn over. i finally got it started crankin on it, but since then i havent been able to. when i try to start it, i hear the fuel pump kick on, but thats it. its like im not pushing the clutch in. thought it was the clutch safety switch, i bypassed that, its still doing the same thing. i checked starter connections and they are good. i was thinking maybe it could be the solenoid, but i dont have a way to check it. any ideas on what else it could be?
Very easy to check the solenoid. Run a jumper from the small terminal at the top of the solenoid to the large bolt on the solenoid that is farthest from the battery. It should then crank. Now this is the solenoid about 6 inches from the battery. There is another solenoid on top of the starter. If that checks good, read on.
Have someone hold the ignition switch in the start position, while you check to see if you are getting power through that small wire that hooks onto the solenoid. Use a test light or multi-meter.
checked both solenoids. both are working according to the tests. any more ideas??
I'm assuming the engine cranked over when you did the test I mentioned in the first paragraph under #2? Did you do the test I mentioned in the second paragraph under #2?
