Leaf Spring Bushings

It's time for new front leaf spring bushings on my 2004 F250 6.0

I ordered the Energy Suspension poly bushing kit, found a shop that will complete the install for $175 plus tax. You guys that have done this job before, is that worth it? Or should I just tackle the job myself?

if you have a shop press then i would say do it yourself. when i did mine i heated them with a torch and then pressed them out in my 20 ton press. make sure you have someone help you and buy new u-bols and nuts. You should never reuse u-bolts and nuts they stretch and if you reuse them it could break them!

I'm interested in doing this myself, I've been researching the price on new leafs vs. bushings. Two X-Code springs run about $400.00, besides the bolts & nuts being about another $100 per side but you would need those anyway.

Let me know how the install goes, I may try to replace just bushings depending on how bad things are under there.

I was going to try and do it without removing the spring from the axle and I think that was my mech's plan as well. The truck only has 52,xxx miles on it and the bolts at the end of the springs and shackles aren't in too bad of shape. Plus, this way I wouldn't have to worry about new U-bolts. The only thing that worries me is that metal sleeve... I do not have a shop press (which would require removal of the spring) and I've heard of guys not being able to get the thing out.

My bushing kit was only $50, Energy Suspension brand. If I wanted to replace the bolts at the hanger and shackle Grade 8 bolts from a local hardware store would be $30-$40 depending. Also, find a local machine shop that will custom make U-bolts, I had some made for the rear and it was $45 for 4. With the custom U-bolts you get rolled threads, not cut threads. They will be much stronger and last much longer.

If you wanted to replace everything, a little leg work and $150 you would have everything you need.

I just removed my spring bushings (springs removed from truck) with a ball joint press from the local autoparts store. The receiver cups in the ball joint kit weren't deep enough without combining a couple to gain the extra depth, but it only took about 5-10 minutes per spring.
