I have been thinking about getting some HIDs people tell me they are much better than the stock lighting. Does anybody have them and what are pros and cons of them? Do i need to get the regular 9007 bulbs or the 9007 hi/low ones? What wattage should i get? Do i need the dual in/dual out harness?
I want to make sure i get all i need the first time
For reference im looking at HID Kits, BMW Aftermarket Bumpers & Lighting, DEPO - DDM Tuning
You will need a "HI/LO" kit because the headlights in our truck use a single bulb (dual filament) for both beams. You won't need the "dual in/out" harness - the harness with the "HI/LO" kit will have you covered. I went with the 55w kit in 5000k 'color' - that will give you max brightness and usable light. 55w in 8000k will have a blue color to the light, so if you're all about "The Fast and the Furious", get the 8000k (or higher)
The 8000Ks aren't as blue as you'd think -- just a slight blue tint (which is what I wanted). The 10000Ks are VERY blue however. Here's what my 8000Ks look like:
Joelong, whatever you do, speak with Johnny at airtime. I believe he goes by johnnyairtime. Yes its true you can get kits out there for very little money, but ALL kits and bulbs are not the same. Plus they do not function as they should. I was one that was looking to upgrade my lights in my 03. I must have spoken and read every thread out there and the only one that really explained everything you should or need to know is johnny. I bought his kit and could not be more happier. Talk to him, you will not be disappointed.
Retro Solutions is a SV on a couple different diesel sites so I searched those forums to get some feedback on the product and the seller. Eveyone was very happy with the product and the customer service so I went with their kit, which comes with a lifetime warrantee.
I still need to install them too...procrastination can be a booger-bear.
i was looking at the link you posted and was wondering if i was to order the HID's would i need the other stuff listed, such as the mounting stuff, and adapter cables and what not? thanks also how does the installation work ?"
I have the Retro-Solutions kit in my truck (55w 5000k), my wifes subaru (35w 4300k) and my motorcycle (55w 5000k) and they work great. I have the 35w 3000k set for my fogs but yet to install them. Great deal, not as cheap as some but the lifetime warranty says alot about the product. Neighbor heard of mine from the parts store I deal with, came and checked them out and bought and installed them on his truck. If my wife likes something I did to her car you know it has got to be good.

To whom was your question directed? If it was me, then the kit is all inclusive.

to you EL CONQUISTADOR!!!!!! rotflmao........
back on topic: im running the ddm tuning 55w 6000k hi/lo 9007 kit and love it. the low beam is bright enough that i dont know if i would order the hi/lo out of necessity but just to be able to bright back the people brighting me is reason enough to have it.....
I have the DDM 55w 5000k raptor HID's in my OBS. When they work, they are fine. I had one ballast that was intermittent for a while, and I found DDM's returns department/policies to be really lame but the ballast started behaving so I haven't messed with it since.
Oh yeah, also be advised the kit comes with no mounts for the ballasts, and they leave it up to you to poke around on their site to figure out how to arrange the wires for the plug that attaches to the factory headlight harness.
i would also like to purchase a new lens cover for both lights.anyone know where i can find these at? i'm look'n for just a clean clear glass. i've used those lens cleaner kit deals, but my lens still look opaque, and i don't like those line deals that cover the front. thanks for the help.
