My 07 5.4 starts funny sometimes after I have been driving it and I shutdown to say go inside to a fast food restrauant and come out in 20 minutes. If I leave the key in the RUN position before I crank that seems to help. It does not like to have the key thrown in and turned straight to START.
It always starts, it just hesitates and almost sounds like it stops and tries to start again. It never has any problems with cold starts. Truck runs great and no issues other than this weirdness.
Oil is always changed on time, I run quality fuel and use Techron addtive every once in a while.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->
It sounds like you are loosing pressure to the injectors. When you turn the key to the run position for a few seconds, the pump has time to build pressure. But that doesn't explain why you don't have trouble starting when cold. I got into the habit of letting the pump run for a couple of seconds, before starting years ago for some reson.
Could have a leaky injector. These injectors are known to leak into the cylinders. When you start fast, the pump doesn't have time to prime the system.
Some of the f-150's have an extended warranty on injectors for this same problem. IF it leaks enough, you could burn up a piston or hydro-lock and bend a rod(have seen both). A garage can find this easy enough(remove the rail and pressurize the system and see if anything leaks out the inejctor nozzles). My best guess would be this is your problem.

How do I tell if I have the warranty?
And to tell you the truth sometimes it does feel like the motor it locked when starting.
