Hello,
I have a 98 V6 3.0 AUTO 2WD XLT and my CEL will pop on every now and then with a code of P0420. The light usually goes away after I do a fill-up but I decided to pull the codes anyhow. I used a friends ScanGuage and along with the P0420 I got P0000 and P2A00. Can anyone tell me what the other two codes are, thanks.
John
I believe those codes have to do with air flow. Have you changed your air filter lately? Also, check the MAF sensor, it may need to be cleaned. As far as I know, P0000 is a generic code because the computer cannot figure out the problem and P2A00 is because air flow is somehow restricted.
Thanks, I had the oil changed recently at the dealership. Normally I clean the MAF when I do the work but this time I got lazy. I guess I know what I am doing this weekend if the weather cooperates. The truck drives okay outside of my gas mileage going down but I guess that is because of the cold weather and that I am doing more city driving now. My mileage went from 20-21 to 17-19 MPG.
I know what you mean. I switched jobs and city driving became more prevalent than highway driving. I still get between 20 and 21 when I drive to my dad's in Louisiana though.
CEL came on in October, the result being my MPG went down the toilet...had two codes - O2 sensors and MAF - Cleaned the MAF and replaced the O2 sensors, cleared the codes and my city MPG is back to between 17 and 19, depending on how I drive.
The wife wanted me to replace the O2 sensors when the 0420 code first popped up. I had Ford check out all the other symptoms first though. I guess this is a good time as ever. Thanks for the help.
