Working on putting at 4 wd with a 5 spd back in the F150. There are sensors, likely making it not possible to start without any plugins for the transfer case (which is manual) and the 5 speed. Anyways, if I attempt to start it, what's your guess - will it start or not ? If not, what can I do to get around it ?
Thanks, want to see if getting any oil leaks while engine running ....
There are no sensors of any significance on a manual transfer case and transmission so yes the motor will start and run normally... assuming the truck originally had these same components in it and is still using the same wiring harness and computer.
When i did one of many conversions from A/T to manual, i found the necessary wires from the A/T, and crossed them up. Same with those stupid clutch pedal wires where the motor won't turn over til the clutch is pushed to the floor.
But like previously stated you cant bolt the starter to nothing unless you got the transmission in. Chevy bolts to the block so you could do it with one of those pieces of junk.
But in your question we will assume you are talking about a ford truck, so no.
Now guys hold on, my old RTS that I had in my 87 you could take the bellhousing off the tranny and put it on the block and be able to start it, so technically it can be done. But he said he had the 5 speed so unless he's (or she) using black magic he can't start it without the tranny.

I forgot for a moment that the bellhousings came off of the older trrans... so in theory you can start a motor with the trans off if you have a bell housing from an older truck you could but on there temporarly to start it.
Or do as lew said and pull start it
