Frame Mount Tank Install

took the plastic cell out of the bed and now putting a tank in between the frame rails, here is my progress so far...
old tank.

new tank

filler door hole cut... measured about 12 times before actually cutting.

here is a close up of the cap, the center just pushes in with the gas nozzle, so no need to unscrew the cap

fit the tank in.

good clean look.

Now I have to take off the mounting points on the tank and fit them to the frame, and move them down to lift the tank higher in the frame. I was told it should be a direct bolt in,you know how that goes....
If anyone else is in the process I hope this will help, or if you have have already done one I am open to any ideas or suggestions.

Before you cut the brackets off i would address it with the company. Direct fit is direct fit.

Make them honor their product.

Nice job on the door install.

Garbz2 thanks for the insight. I had already cut the mount and fit to the frame.

here is a quick update

before, notice the large gap between the frame and tank mount.

here is an after shot, all welded up and ready to bolt in.

Hey Kory, how far does this tank hang below the frame? Will it be visible under the truck?
Nice job on the mounting mods.

37 Ford Guy, the tank is about 6.5" below the frame rail, it can only be seen from a good distance, the rollpan hides it well.

Hey, thanks, Kory. It would cool if you could snap a couple of pics someday.

Thanks.

Been a long time since the last update, not much spare time to play in the garage lately.

So the tank is mounted, wired, plumbed, and ready for gas. here is what I did yesterday.
Finished removing the old bedliner, cleaned and taped off.

Trying out this Gator Guard from Eastwood.

New bedliner brushed on and drying......

Just have to button up a few things and on to the interior upgrade.

Where did you get the tank?

I have seen the Mustang tank swaps, and would love to get the tank out of my cab for a little bit more room.

The tank came from Mid Fifty F100 Parts. It needed slight modification to the mounting brackets to fit the frame correctly.

I looked on their site but didn't see it. Do you have a part number and price?

Here is the part number: 1694-17SC it is $399.

Description says it fits up to 56 but with a little mods to the mounting brackets it fit good in my 61.

Thanks

Thanks Kory. You should tell/show them what you did to get it to fit your '61 so that they can make them for slicks to work off the shelf. I would significantly increase their market.
