The idle rpm spec should be on your emissions decal (750 or so??). Dont suppose you have a tach do ya? As long as its not so low that it stalls or hesitates when accelerating from idle it should be OK. A perfectly running carbed engine can diesel if you hold the rpm up high and shut the key off.
You clowns do waht you want. Diseling is detonation. Not enough octane is the prime cause. Go ahead and destroy your engines, it's your money to waste.

Don't feel you have to lash out and keep replying because your opinion doesn't seem to be sinking in. One thing I have realized about these boards in comparison to a in person debate; When in person you say something, and it goes out in the air and you may be drowned out by someone else, or it may be forgotten and you have to keep repeating yourself. You don't have to do that on these boards. All you have to do is type your reply with your opinion, and it's there forever, and everyone truly reading each response in the thread, will read your response also. Each time the thread is read, a person can read all the responses and make up their own mind what they want to do.
This is something I have learned over time and helps me when I get frustrated in the thread. I just remember my opinion is there for people to read, and they can agree or disagree, but it will be there as long as the thread is there, and no one can delete it unless it's something improper.
I am responding to this for everyone to see, because you are not the only one that can possibly benefit from my "theory of forum operation".
My 84 motorhome had a problem with dieseling..turned out to be a combo of high/rich idle setting and a broken vac hose...the seafoam treatment also helped.. cleans the carbon crap out of the combustion chambers
Dieseling is indeed detonation: unwanted and unintended firing of fuel/air mixture in the cylinder(s).
However the causes of dieseling are more numerous than just an octane issue, altho octane is a possible cause. Most often it is caused by hot spots inside the cylinder area and shows a need for the engine to be "cleaned up". And octane issues are usually "helped" along by issues such as hot spots, vacuum problems, idle set way too high, fuel mixture set very rich and so forth.
If the problem is fairly minor a gas treatment can solve the problem as the previous poster stated with seafoam as one choice.
No tach, I called and talked to the local carberation repair guy here and he told me that I really don't need the Idle Stop Sol. and that I need to adjust the choke thermostat so it opens fully when warm and the fuel inlet so that I can take to where it needs to be set, I've only had the problem since I rebuilt my carb and I forgot to mark or notch where my settings were so it would run the way it was setup already instead of having to find my settings all over from scratch. I'm getting excess fuel into the chamber and not enough air to mix in for proper combustion so the left over fuel is staying in the chamber when I shut off the engine in neutral (causing my dieseling) rather than in gear. So my problem is to much fuel not enough air. It's all a matter of fixing it when I don't have school and I'm not working on homework. Thanks for all the replies and I'm going to try adjusting and see if that solves my issue, if not I will continue to ask for input.

Sorry, that's not correct, it takes air and fuel to create combustion, excess fuel by itself will not cause it. But I am confident you will eventually figure it out.
