How do you tell if your injectors need to be cleaned? Can this be done by your average shade tree mechanic or does this have to be done by the dealer? Thanks!
Assuming you are talking about the diesel, since you are asking about glow plugs in another thread.
You don't clean them.
Fuel is being shot through the tips of the injectors directly into the combustion chamber at 20,000 PSI or better, depending on engine load. Nothing that can survive that is going to be cleaned off by any cleaner.
You could remove them and send them to a reputable diesel injection shop such as full force or rosewood diesel, they will clean and flow test, just a thought.
