Yesterday's Hiccup
Yesterday didn't flow as I expected it might, however. I was ten miles into the ninety plus miles from the farm to my wife's house when it all happened.
1. Cruise Control kicked out and was inoperative from that point.
2. Truck went to limp mode, no MIL.
3. Drove about five miles, pulled off and shut engine down for a minute or so.
4. Restarted and hit the road.
5. About a minute into restart, cruise again kicks out and engine goes to limp mode. This time there is an MIL.
6. Drove about two miles, pulled off and attatched code reader. Codes P0404 and P1335 present. Reset the MIL.
7. Restarted and immediatley same scenario.
8. Drove another thirty miles. Stopped for a bite. Checked and reset MIL. Codes P0404 and P1335 present - EGR related.
9. After thirty minutes, headed on up the road. Cruise inoperative. No MIL, but could tell we were in limp mode.
10. Drove another thirty miles. Pulled into abandoned service station and shut down for a couple minutes.
11. Restarted engine. All symptoms gone. Cruise operational.
12. Truck normal ever since.
My best guess is carbon dislodged and stuck the EGR open a bit. My question: Was this a harbinger of things to come? Or was it a thing that may happen, but will not necessarily repeat?
Exhaust Gas Recirculation
Control Circuit Range/
Performance
This error is set when the deviation in EGR
position is outside the threshold. 10 percent of full range error >5 sec System error, EGR valve, PCM
P1335 X X X EGR Position Sensor Minimum/
Maximum Stop Performance
This error occurs when voltage of the EGR valve
falls below the minimum threshold. 1.3v >2.5sec Wiring, EGR valve
assembly,PCM
Based upon what you are saying I would agree that is was sticking. I take it that you have the old style one still? I do as well and have had no problems at all.
I would take a look at the wiring and connections just to rule that out.
