Hey everyone.. I looked through the tech folder and I did not see anything listed on this and I wanted to make sure I was doing this right..
Fuel filter seems pretty easy to change, just unscrew the case under the frame and under the hood next to the oil filter and replace with an OEM.. other than a wrench nothing looks to complicated. However, I wanted to make sure I am not avoiding a critical step here.
Can anyone provide a quick link or step by step directions?
Before you take the the frame filter off, unscrew the drain plug to remove any water that may be in there.
Replace the orings. Then when you are installing the new filters. They need to be pressed into the caps before you screw them in.
Once the caps fully screw into the housings, stop there, don't go any tighter. Its the same for the oil filter.
ford states cycle the key 6 times before you restart the truck. You can hear the pump so when it turns off, roughly 15 or 20 seconds, trun the key off, then on, 6 times.
Use the right socket for the cap under the hood!!!!! Do not use the stupid square in the top. There have been many people that have used it and cracked the cap. Don't test it. Use the right socket.
Also, grease those o-rings! the can buckle with out it. Use oil or grease, not diesel.

Since I change my fuel filters during an oil change I usually just use clean oil. Of the 6-7 times I've replaced my filters I haven't nicked/buckled one. Besides, you've got time on your hands if your waiting for the oil to drain out of the jug into the engine...no reason to rush a filter change.
