Yeah strange about the cooling capacity, my owners manuals says 18 quarts.

Dean the vin number is on the top of the passenger side frame rail near where the front axle passes under and also under the cab. It IS there, and can be a bugger to find sometimes.

When I did a 1st fill after my rebuild it took most of 5 gallons, so 18 qts is about right.

I recommend taking a few minutes and mixing your antifreeze with grocery store distilled water 50/50 before putting any in.

We had some of the best tasting water on the farm where I grew up, but after a few years everything that had it in the cooling system looked like mud. The distilled water shouldn't add minerals that can do that, and is about a buck a gallon.

Hmmm weird. I used pre mixed but I could only get about 2 and a half of the gallon containers to go in.

If you are only refilling the radiator and not the block, that would be your difference. There is a bunch of coolant already in the engine if you have not had it apart. As John said, from rebuild it will take over 4 gallons.

Did you price check 2 gallons of premix vr 1 gallon unmixd and 1 gallon grocery store water.

Today Advance Auto Creedmoor store online

Prestone Extended Life Antifreeze/Coolant (1 Gallon) $14.99

Prestone 50/50 Ready-to-Use Prediluted Extended Life Antifreeze/Coolant $11.99 X 2 = $23.98

1 gal. Antifreeze $14.99 + 1 gal distilled water $1.00 $16.00 total VR $24.00. $8.00 a gallon for their water.

Antifreeze @ $15.00 a gallon, what the hello is going on with that, seems like $9.00 last time I checked.

I just used walmart antifreeze because I'm still working on the truck and just needed basic stuff to get by. And the walmart premixed price was 6 a gallon
