which plug broke?? hope not one of the back ones! My 04 broke one on the drivers side against the fire wall, what a pain! I actually thought Ford had these broken plug problems addressed with application of nickle anti sieze. I have an 08 w/5.4 and was hoping this wouldnt be a problem....
Oh yeah on the removal alot of patience and a few beers.
Looking to do my plugs next weekend, Is there any issues with the lisle tool breaking plug pieces into the motor? What about the carbon build up that broke loose while pulling out the plugs? Cant be good for the motor ! how do you get that junk out without ripping the heads off?
I broke 6 out 8 plugs and the tool was a life saver. I had one peice of metal go into the cylinder on me but I used a magnet to get it out. The porceline is very brittle and will break up if you don't get all out with causing any damage. I still used a long small hose and blew out every cylinder before installing the new plugs just to be sure. The thing runs like a swiss watch now. The Lisle tool is designed to push the porceline to just the right distance to get the puller in. It doesn't need to be tapped and the porceline will catch any metal filings from the thread cutting. Take your time and keep your cool, you'll be fine.

I just did a motor swap and changed all the plugs. 4 broke off, the tool that is mentioned above works very well. Removed all 4 in about 30 minutes, motor was on a stand which made it a lot easier. There is a punch type part used to force the porcelin further into the plug. I only tightend it enough to feel it pop a little. Then used the remover to pull the plug. I also used a pnuematic parts cleaner sprayer and inserted the tube into the cylinder and vaccumed it out just to make sure. shouldnt be any porcelin that makes it to the cylinder. You should be able to purchase the tool for around $100-$150.
