P0401 Code help!!!

Hi All, Idiot light is on yet again and is reading a P0401 on a 2000 EXP w/ 140k on it. Wondering if there is a quick fix for this or if I need to R&R the EGR. Just so happens I need to smog by the end of the month...Just my luck

Remove the EGR valve and make sure the passages behind it are not blocked with carbon deposits.

The large ports that attach to it right? If there is blockage can you use a wire brish and clean it out or is there more to it than that?

couldn't it also be the hoses going to the egr solenoid?
