thank you fellow IDI brotherhood members for opening my thread.
So here we go, I brought my truck over to FidyDiesel in Concord Ca. I have a 1994 7.3 with factory turbo with 190k miles with original injectors and IP.
I wanted to raise my boost to 13. So I installed a brand new Autometer boost gauge. After a few pulls, the boost showed that I maxed 5psi at factory settings.
We then proceeded to shorten the rod (for more boost) but the rod snapped in half. So then we had to get a brand new assembly and rod. After a few pulls, it stayed at 5. And finally we just said **** it, we ended up just wiring the wastegate totally shut. And we were fully aware that can spell disaster. And after a few final pulls, only PEAK 7 psi
Whats happening? I dont think there are any exaust or boost leaks. I have a KILLER homade cold air intake. What gives??

any thoughts/theorys would be greatly appricatied
Theres your problem brotha.. Your not getting enough fuel. No fuel = no heat, no heat = no boost.
Didn't you say that you bought new sticks? Lets put them ****s in already and check your fuel pressure with the new sticks in. You got about 100k on your thermostat too, replace them ****s so the motor can warm up some and we might be in business
Dave, thank you very much for your reply. I have an upgraded downpipe to 2.25" out the back to a straight pipe. I know its not the mighty 3", put its the best I can do with my factory housing. And the fuel is not turned up, the IP is still a virgin
ManicMike- Thank you as well for your reply. Ya man, looks like plain and simple.
Brian- Correct, I got the new sticks, IP, pyro, and intercooler. I was more excited then the first time i ever boned
Then unfortunately, last week, I had to sell them all I have been devastated yo. I came across some tough $$$ times of late, but will be back and ready to attack VERY soon. And yes, you have mentioned the stat
My truck has ~201K on original pump and injectors. Last winter I put a ATS 093 kit on with the 3" downpipe connected to a 3.5" exhaust (with muffler) out of a powerstroke. Stock intake as well. I average from 5-7 PSI on the highway when unloaded. I'm not loaded often, and even then, the max I've seen is maybe 9 PSI. When I installed the turbo, I played with the wastegate a little with a brake bleeder vacuum/air pump. I don't remember what it was stock, but I did adjust it slightly higher, but doubt it gets close to those levels.
I'm pretty sure my problem is worn out pump and injectors, but since it still runs fine, I can't afford to replace them at this time. I was contemplating wrapping the up-pipe in header wrap, but don't know how much I'd need, and its not as cheap as I'd like either.
I'm just throwing this to compare my experience with yours. I had wondered why mine didn't perform like others, but have come to the realization that I need to put more $$ into the truck. The turbo did help though.
You are driving the truck to get a boost reading and not just revving the motor in the driveway? I can hit 5psi sitting still but can hit 12psi screaming down the road.

same here and i have the crushed dp i can go more but i invested too much in the motor to pop a head gasket and its my dd so no downtime allowed
Is the pump turned up at all? I'd closely inspect all the connections for signs of soot(easier to spot if turned up a few flats). Check the manifolds for cracks, the gaskets and the U-pipe connections. After I fixed all my leaks, I was amazed how much quicker I could build boost. If it still doesn't work for you than you probably dont have enough fuel.
