Just as the title says, I went and started my truck today to go to the store, it starts right up like any other day. After i do my grocery shopping, I come outside, go to start the truck and it just clicks. The radio and everything comes on and the batteries had voltage. I tried to jump the starter solenoid and it would just spark but no crank. I checked the voltage at the solenoid. It had battery voltage on the battery side but only about 10.5 volts on the starter side when i had a friend try to start the truck. The starter is a brand new as of about a month and a half ago DB factory replacement.
Let me know what you guys think. I had a friend bring me home and i picked up a new starter solenoid at O'Reilly's. Is the starter toast even though it showed no signs of slowing down? Keep in mind the truck started fine not only an hour before it wouldn't start.
Help me out guys, the truck is down at a local grocery store and its a long walk...
The big wire and little wire on the starter felt tight. All the wires on the solenoid felt tight. Battery cables were all tight. It was just one click. Turn the key to RUN and click. Nothing.
I picked a cheapo solenoid up on the way home... It just has me confused and mad cuz its too darn cold out to be messing with it in the Fred Meyer parking lot.
If you jumped the 2 big terminals on the solenoid with the key on and it still didn't start, your starter is FUBAR. Its not unheard of to get a bad starter from DB... search the SD forum.
I had a similar situation on my rig last fall. Starter would click but not spin. Ended up being a corroded connection between the solinoid on the starter and the starter motor itself. Took me all day to figure it out.
Alright. I had a feeling that was the issue. It just amazes me it started so well everytime up until this time. It just said "I quit" on the way to the store.

I agree with Chase.Had one do the same thing last year.Hit it with a hammer with my wife trying to start it and sparks shot out of it.
Took it off and had it rebuilt.Good to go.
I do not buy starters anymore(too many bad ones)I have them rebuilt at a quality rebuilder. They last longer.

Mine did the same thing. That is what I was talking about in my post above.I had started the truck 5 times that day.
Alright. Well I guess I'll have to tow the truck back to my apartment and take it off, and send it to DB. It's only two months old so its still under warranty.
Big wire, the switched side of the solinoid that goes directly to the motor. Before you send back the starter, make sure both ends of that big wire are torqued down snug. Verify that you have 12V to the starter motor itself.
Sorry to say.Like Chase said. There have been several folks in the SD section that have had trouble or bought bad starters from DB.
Now you are down and cannot get a trade right away.
One good thing about local parts stores.

I will look at that as soon as i can get back to my truck.

Problem with them is they want way too darn much for a starter...
