I had that "one click" experience last month, after a year of as expected starts.
Wound up cleaning up the commutator and dejunking it and the brush plate with some heavy duty electrical cleaner (the kind that has the warning: NOT safe for use on plastics). Put it back in after the big box store verified it was operating within spec and it hasn't missed a beat yet.
My conclusion was brush dust, combined with the condensation, was just enough to 'float' one of the brushes to the point of no electrical contact. A good cleaning was all that was required.
Sorry James. My mind was thinking GM. I meant the solenoid on the starter motor as opposed to the relay.
Thank you for the correction. I figured as much. Everybody else says starter too so I am going to return the relay and figure out what i want to do with the starter. I think i will take it to O'riellys and have them test it. I called DB and they tell me it could either be batteries or starter. Problem is my batteries dont say what CCA they are.
Mine did something similar once.. Except I went to start it and it cranked for a second, then stopped and clicked. Tried it again, just a click. The small wire running from the solenoid down to the starter had melted the insulation off of it. Threw some speaker wire on it since it was like 2AM and I needed to get home. Speaker wire got it started nicely. lol
I was able to tow it home. My buddy's dodge 1500 v8 was able to yank it...barely. LOL I pulled both batteries and the starter and took it down to O'rielly's. They tested batteries and said they were fine. Then hooked up the starter and NOTHING. Wouldn't even flinch. Gonna call DB Electrical in the AM and tell them what i think about their starters not working after two months of service... Should be an interesting phone call.
