Fordomatic Install
Just make sure you're using Type-F for a Fordo.....UNLESS, you have had modern clutch material used.
If it's the older type brass clutches, you must use Type-F
Are you using that engine you got from me?
Happy New Year!
Rick
Rick, I ended up going with an engine that I picked up in northern Cal as it was in a little better shape for a starting point, but I still have the one I got from you and plans for a full rebuild as a spare. There is pretty good interest in the old 239 ci with the sedan crowd so I'm still collecting 239s and parts. I have four 239s in the garage right now...
Yes - retired from our armed services and loving it! 27 good years! Still have to work of course, especially living in So Cal.

SOCAL.....yeah. one cannot live very well on any retirement income down there!! (you were an AGR right? don't you get a "real" retirement?
4!! Well I guess you cannot have enough 239's huh?
Could you refresh my memory? Did that one I had, have NON-239 heads and intake manifold? I told someone I thought that was possible with a 239....(maybe it was you!)
I think it also had a 14t camshaft, newer hex-drive oil pump, 14t dist etc....
Did you ever take it apart? and did you happen to notice that the timing chain slipped a few cogs?
Here's what's going in my F-600

I'll have double belt drive for the ALT and A/C pump and the the "loose" belt will run up over the "high-mount" fan drive. I'll use a standard circulating (water) pump. I removed the water pump flange and OEM offset pulley and replaced with a tapered bushing pulley......That way I can align the pulley with the PS pump and front pulley on the damper.

I had a new "High Mount" water pump for it that I decided not to use. (I sold it to a guy in ID to use on a stationary engine!)
I decided to make my own "high" fan-mount as shown in the picture using flange bearings, shaft and larger newer 6blade fan and clutch.
You were correct in all that you mentioned with the 239 I got from you. The block is the original as it is still painted olive drabe, but nearly everything is from a re-build job at some point in time. The heads and intake are ECG. The distro is a 14 tooth hex drive, and I did note that the timing chain had slipped. It's still a solid engine, but these are the reasons I went with the other 239 for my stock F100.

I suppose I could have pulled the timing cover and replaced the timing set and just kept running it! I'd probably still be driving it!!! I think I'll like the 292 though and it'll "look" sort of original!!
I would be amazed if the engine is "original" I thought that the truck came with a 223-6. The grille has the "star" and I thought someone told me that the VIN indicated that the original engine was a "6". Maybe they pulled that engine out of another US Army truck with a V-8.
I still have to remove the cab and blast it and the frame, clean up and repair the 2 speed axle I have so I can install it and prime everything.
I also still have some sheet metal work to do on the cab.....rusty corners etc...
I'm also dumping the vac-boosted single brake system in favor of a hydroboosted split system. It's probably going to weigh on the order of 8000-9000 lbs empty...... I want the thing to stop good when I mash down on the brake pedal!!!
