Tranny issues, replacing MLPS-Questions
1)Coming off freeway, got to a stop sign, turned off overdrive, tried to move forward, rolled backwards down hill instead. Eventually could engage tranny once I had the engine held at about 2k for 6-10 seconds.
2) drove fine up the mountain, but once I got to flat/downhill tranny seemed to drop into neutral and not want to engage into gear again.
3) I pulled over, and found that tranny would not engage in forward or reverse (reverse issue has started happening lately, but never in 1, 2,or D)
4) got it going, drove down mountain, got to flat spot, truck stayed in neutral, died.
5) limped home, truck shutters when the transmission finally engages at low speeds.
ALRIGHT, so I checked the fluid, its very very full, water thin and almost clear...very mildly pink on a paper towel, but looks clear on the stick.
Then I started researching on here and found that
A) I need to change my ATF and filter.
B) false neutral, truck not engaging, and tranny not liking reverse are ALL signs of a screwed up MLPS. SO, how do I replace/adjust this part?
It seems like I just disconnect the shift lever, take off a couple of bolts and a sensor, and pull the cover. But once I'm looking at the white ring that has the neutral line, how do I adjust it to line up to where it is supposed to go???
I read a bunch of different links to other forums, bronco forums, etc, but no one mentioned how to adjust this thing. Does it just turn by hand? How is it held in place? One ford sight said to just go ahead and replace it...what would I be replacing, the white plastic ring thing? Sorry, I'm new to diesels AND auto trannys, so if you respond please keep that in mind. Thanks a Ton!
Truck is a 1991 F350 4x4 7.3 Banks Turbo, Auto tranny w/banks Transmission command module.
Then manually shift Trans into N.
CHOCK THE WHEELS FIRST....
Place it onto the shaft and screw it into place.
Replace the linkage.
Hope this was helpful. This is the way it's done on my 89. Yours should be the same.
