Ok guys I need some help here I have not gotten home yet to fully trouble shot the problem but I was doing some searching and came up with nothing. I love this site but the search is kind of lacing. I use Google \fte and still came up with nothing. Ok here goes my wife went out to the truck(late 99 7.3,6637 that’s it) this morning and it started fine, went to work, left work at noon to go to doctors app started fine again, when she went to leave the doctors app. She turned the key waited for the wts light to go out then the battery light came on and the truck would not crank. She turned the key off and retried batt light on again and it again did not turn over. The third time is a charm and it started just fine. She went back to work and everything went great after that. These are brand new batts I just installed less than one month ago.
Check the battery cables and grounds. Loose or corroded connections will do this. Also check where the fender mounted starter soleniod relay is mounted and make sure there's no corrosion behind that relay. And last, make sure your shifter isn't sloppy. If the truck thinks it's in R instead of P, it won't start.
thankg guys i am trying to find somthing like a fault isolation tree for the battery light. does any one know if one exist or i would just have to string a few things together on what would cause a batt light to come on or become intermitten
If the truck aint running then the batt light will be on if the key is in the run position. I think that what chris said about the shifter is probably the problem. It could also be the ignition switch itself, I have seen that in some of the newer stuff.

Ok, got home after class and went look at the truck. I know 30 and still in school. The gi bill pays good money these days. First of all the batt light does stay on till the truck is started. I know that, brain fart, moving on. Looked at cable checked wiring to the starter. Dam that concrete is cold. Everything looked fine. Sat in cab turned the key and crackle crackle crackle I love that sound. Turned the truck off tried pulling on the shift lever down just a bit turned the key and it started. I decided to drive the truck this morning just in case. Went outside 26* turned the key waited a minute let the gp’s do their thing turned the key the rest of the way started right up no whit smoke no black smoke nothing
