Trans Temp Question

So as i posted a few days ago next week i will be picking up my 2000 Ex 7.3. I have done some looking around in here for normal trans temps. Seems i find any where from 150 to 200 deg. Can anyone give me some input on what they have seen. If i remember correct when i test drove the EX i saw maybe 180-200. Im not real sure because i was trying to pay attention to everything. Now i am concerned? Any input would be appreciated.

Three main factors in tranny fluid temps:
1. How hard you are accelerating especially before the torque converter locks up. (1st, 2nd, 3rd gear)
2. Ambient temps
3. Load

For me, with a decent load (my stump grinder and trailer was right at 7k lbs) and moderate acceleration (not going wot all the time but not babying it either) I would see temps about 100° above ambient. Which means that on those hot, 100° Mississippi summer days, I would see temps around 200°.

It does seem, however, that no matter how cold it gets, the tranny temps still get to at least 145° even without a trailer.

Guess i should have metioned amb temp was probably 40deg. Not pulling anything. I was driving any where from 45 to 60mph from red light to red light so not really stop and go traffic but not a constant highway drive either. I did check the fluid before and after the drive and it was clean with no burnt smell. The trans was rebuilt at 130,000 Ex now has 170,00 0n the clock. it shifted go with no slipping or hunting for correct gear. Maybe me just being paranoid because i have been looking to buy a Ex for a year and finally in a position to purchase one. Think what i will do before i pick it up nect week is take one last test drive and check the gauges again. Thanks for the input and any other advice any one has.

Stop and go driving heats it up more than anything else. (Torque converter is slipping and creating heat.) Tranny is good at anything under 225° says Mark, our forum 4R100 guru.

Banshee, Scott gave good info.

So the Ex you're getting already has guages?

Does (did) it have a custom tuned chip on it?
