I'm working on a 98 E-250, not sure on engine or trans. The vehicle was purchased after the common wiring harness fires of these vehicles. After replacing the harness and test driving the vehicle, I noticed two important things not working. One is the blower motor, at any speed, does not work. I'm getting voltage to the fuse, and the relay, just installed a new resistor, though haven't yet checked voltage to it. The blower will not turn on under any function. I was told this could be a possible bad ground, but are there any other reasons, I'm not getting voltage to the motor.
The second problem is the speedo, it doesn't seem to be functioning at all.
How could I quickly and easily fix these two items?
I also read that, I believe, the master cylinder leaks onto the wiring causing shorts and fires, could there be a short in that section of the wiring keeping these two components from functioning?
I haven't heard of the master cylinder leaking onto wires. I have heard of the big recall Ford had because the pressure switch on the master cylinder leaks internally and can cause a fire. This pressure switch is for the cruise control and should be unplugged till a new switch is installed.
I would take the wires off the blower motor and run some directly to the battery and see if the motor is good. And yes, if the blower motor is mounted in a plastic duct, it will need a separate ground wire to work properly.
