I have a 99.5 f350 just turned 350k. I have to install the ITP RR and in tank mod kit, bellowed up pipes, SS injectors, glow plugs, harnesses, gaskets and Garrett 38R. I see that others on here are having problems with the HPOP and I'm thinking that I'm just going to change it out while I'm doing everything else or should I just let it eat til it fails.
being as I'm the latest one with the most problems, I'll chime in. I was one of the original Beta testers on Bob Riley"s adreneline HPOP. I absolutely love that pump. I will be installing another one Tuesday. it made a world of difference in how my truck pulled.
BUT if your plan is to run SS injectors I would wait on the HPOP until it goes bad. Single shots take less oil. Tuning is KING with these trucks. if your tuner asks the injectors to stay open longer than necessary it will cause your HPOP to struggle to keep up.
talk with your tuner, custom tunes are THE ONLY WAY to go. live tuning even better.
out of the 3 different tunes I've had I prefer PowerHungry Performance. Especially if you have the 6 sp. Bill's been doing this since 1997. he knows these trucks.
PM me if you want.
Find someone with AE and test it to see what kind of pressure it's holding. If it's good, leave it alone. If it's weak, send it to Joey and let him do his thing.

I believe I read on one of the threads that Joey said he would rather build a new pump, and that it would be better to buy a new one and send it to him. I think that's the smart thing to do if you are interested in reliability. That's my $.02.

What do you think?
Finish your other mods, then see what oil pressures you can sustain at WOT. If you're able to keep at or damn near close to 3000 psi with SS injectors, then you're fine.
What tuner are you planning to use? I am with Curtis because it may be sufficient but probably not. If it is not then you may be out some cash on live tunes and not so much with pre-programmed stuff which you can hopefully have updated via emailed file.
Even if the hpop lays down under WOT, with those items it ought to go good up to that point. You will not need a scanner to tell you when it lays down as you will feel it.
When I upgraded to Swamps 175/146 SS injectors I didn't need to do anything to my HPOP. Like said above - the single shots use less oil and I easilly hold 3100 psi now while towing our 32' fifth wheel, much better than with the stock split shots. Now having said that, if I run on the track in Tony's race program the psi will drop, but not enough to set off the CEL light.
Like said - do the mods listed first then see what your HPOP does. Some folks think they have a weak HPOP but usually it not a weak HPOP but the HPOP not being able to keep up with the demand from the program/tune.

Just asking, I don't seem to know how Joey is, and where he is. Can somebody please set me straight. It sounds like he's the man to mod are pumps, Chet
Thanks for the replies...I still have concerns with the age of my HPOP. I have no idea what pressures I was seeing with Jodies chip but I can tell you at about 2200 RPM it kind of "hit a wall" so to speak. Let me ask you this. Am I asking for trouble from a pump that has seen less and less pressure over the years now (after the mods)looking at 3000psi?
My chip, F-5, is out. I sent it back to get reburned for the SS, and to add a couple more tunes to it....

A pump is like any other part.... it can wear out.
However, the HPOP is designed to last the life of the engine. So no, there's no problem with running a higher mileage HPOP. If it's holding pressures that it needs, it's working fine.
