Going cheaper has been tried many, many, many, etc... times. The failure rate is so high that it is one of the primary causes of many "Help me" threads on the forum. There is a reason these things are expensive - proper construction methods and materials, quality control, the mark-up on that expensive part to stay in business to support the part in the event of failure. You are paying for a better part - and the support to back your play.
I bought a cheap one once and it didn't work. When it comes to sensors use Ford stuff or it will fail prematurely. And RiffRaff's price is cheaper than the stealership.
Well, FORD isn't making those sensors. Someone else is. Wish I knew who that someone else is. $40 is absurd.
What Tugly said, I have tried the cheap ones in the past when in a bind and it wasn't even worth the time to install. Go OEM and be done with it for another 15 years. I don't know why everyone thinks $40 for a sensor is so expensive when it works and when you figure the expected life only costs you about $2.50 or less a year, lol. If you want cheap by a Geo Metro

Lex I put one on my truck late last year. Ended up at Autozone unfortunately. There is oil temp sensor and coolant temp sensor. The one you need is under $10 I think. Wish I had a part number for you.
