ive been rolling around the idea of using a fullsize bronco tank (32 gal) to replace the rear tank in my 86' (6.9, c6 4x4) but ive heard that the gassers have somekind of coating on the inside that will mix with diesel and contaminate the fuel. also are the sending unit's the same size? any info would help. has anyone ever done this?
i have F150 dual tanks from a gasser currently running my truck. They have been in for the almost two years i have owned it and the three prior years to my ownership. The PO did a F150 body swap and used some of the other components on top of a F350 chassis. I dont know about some kind of lining but lets just say it all works in mine. pretty sure it is 33, when i drained mine and cleaned it out then filled it, it was almost exactly 33, just a bit over.
It is the zinc coating that is used on the gasser tanks that wreak havoc on our fuel systems. I am running the single 33 gallon Bronco tank in mine (this is the single rear tank). I bought a cheap uncoated tank for mine. The senders are different in length due to the tank being about twice the hieght of a gasser/diesel tank. If you find a tank for a Bronco with the smaller (2 5/8" I think) sender hole you can use the plain sender with out the pump on it. This tank will also accept the early style low pressure intank pump wich was made for carbed engines and will run our diesels as well. They also make these tanks in a polymer (plastic) version. But I have heard that these can be prone to static charge build up and that could be a problem lol.
JBG sells them (plastic and metal) both my 89 uses the smaller bung my old 90 used the larger bung.the plastic tank seams good so far but the sender hold down looks a little cheesey

only because i am totally unsure, what about zinc would wreak havoc on our systems. what would it do? how could it pass the filter?
edit, just did some reading, very odd reaction that can form a soupy paste and break down some of the diesel. Wow, never knew. A gasser to diesel swap would need to factor in new fuel tanks, unless the current ones are plastic. Either way, interesting. It had be guessing but when i thought about it, any issues would have arisen with the PO not with me. The reaction will corrode off the lining somewhat fast.
