I am wanting to get a 6.0L now because i have always had an f150 i am not to savy on f250's now i know diesel engins preety much last forever if you take care of them. but there is one i found its a 2006 with 96000 miles looks real nice but i am worried about the miles. what are some common things to look for with thouse miles. and in you alls opinion would it be stupid to pay $26000 for a f250 with that kind of miles. what ever facts you can give me would be great.
I would spend 26k on my 2000 with 390,000 before I would spend 2600.00 for my junk 2004 6.0 with 140,000. The 6.0 is such a disappointment. I would keep shopping and spend a little more for somthing besides a 6.0. JMO, get ready for controversey and remember you asked. thebegins
$26k sounds too high to me! I have seen them for this price with much less mileage and with a full year of warranty left.
That being said, I wouldn't be afraid of a 6.0L that was well maintained. In buying a used vehicle (especially a 6.0L) your first task is to investigate how it was treated and/or modded.
(As was mentioned by someone earlier - some people do actually have junk 6.0L's - for various reasons. But well taken care of 6.0L's are really not much of a risk IMO - with a little investment for reliability mods and with a committment to maintenance)
I was not bashing anyone or anyones engine. My post SAYS MY JUNK 6.0. There are 3 in my family that have 6.0s and 2 of the three have been problem children from the beginning. My son drives his like he is mad at it all the time and he has been happy with it. The other two not so much. JMO opinion stated here. You can spend as much or as little as you want and come out good or bad no one knows for sure. Looking at the forums, talking to the techs, and experience working on them all is what my opinions are based from.
Its a lariat fx4 crew cab looks like it has a leveling kit on it and after market rims. Inside looks real nice still clean out is the same but a dealership dos a lot to make things look better. There seems to be quite a lot of dislike tord the 6.0 is it really know for problems?
Go on to www.autotrader.com and do some searches for the vehicle you'd like. You'll be surprised by some of the deals out there.
My advice, and it's only my opinion ... try limiting the search to higher mileages and lower sale price trucks. If you find one that has all the options you want, and the body/interior is well maintained then I would consider that one. The lower price will allow you to add maintenance and performance items to the engine and then it'll get you the long life you're looking for.
As an example, I've seen a few SuperDuty & Excursions on there lately that look in great condition for less than $12,000. For that you could add a new engine or do ALL the bulletproof upgrades and still have money left in your pocket out of $26k.
You have to remember, 26 is the asking price, the Art of the Deal is the final you are willing to pay. Is this a Ford dealer? If so, you can be polite and ask for the Oasis report. Oasis will show repairs made under warranty.
there is an 04 CC Shortbed on a lot here for $15K. Granted its an 04, but I dont think a truck 2 years newer is going for an additional 12K.
As has been noted some 6.0s are problem children, some are not. But then again eeach brand has its issues, just make sure you are fully aware of potential problems no matter what you buy "USED".
well i was just saying the 6.0 because thats what this one that i found was. in everyones opinion what motor is the better one. or has less problems. the 6.4, 6.7, 7.3. i am not someone who tows alot so i dont think i need a 7.3 I just want something reliable. I have a 5.4 triton now and i like the engine its got a good bit of power but its a gas pig. plus i have 108000 miles on it. so i am just waiting for things to break now.
