off the line performance

I notice since day one when i got my truck that when i put my foot to the floor from a dead stop, it seems to take a second or two before the truck starts to move, part throttle the truck is responsive. I know that these trucks are kind of weak on the low speed acceleration. Mods i have done to my truck include intake, cat back exhaust, e-fans, and diablo preditor tuner. My truck is an 04 xlt 4wd extended cab with the 4.6. stock gearing at this point. Any suggestions why it seems to have the hesitation at the low end. I drove my co workers who has an 07 with the same motor and his seems much more lively off the line same gearing as well.

Thanks

The difference your feeling is likely caused by the electronic throttle attempting to maximize fuel economy, in the early years it was a little clumsier then your buddies 2007. Usually a tuner helps that though...

I read on another thread that you can reset the electronic throttle and it usually helps the response of the unit.
I haven't done it to my own truck, so I can't confirm the results...

Turn ignition to "on" position.
Press gas pedal to the floor QUICKLY.
SLOWLY let the pedal back up.
Turn ignition to "off".
Then repeat above steps two more times for a total of three cycles.
Start truck and run the hell out of it while the computer "re-learns" the parameters of the electronic throttle control.

Let us know if you try it and how it works!

my edge programmer fixed mine instantly because stock they suck, i used to have to floor it when passing before i was clear to pass because it would take that long for the fly by wire to react.

Troll?

I'll second that it's annoying having to mash the pedal down to get some power out these beast. I was going to start with an air intake and exhaust to open her up - might dump some money in a programmer and go from there.

Not trolling Heisenberg. Look it up on this site or other forums. It has worked for some (majority) of the trucks, and for some it hasn't.

PLUS: I've read and heard that the e-throttle can use some adjustment from the factory setting. It appears that the mount holding the pedal and assembly to the firewall is adjustable and needs to be moved. With the factory setting, the throttle body only opens up about 80%. Loosen the bolts holding the assembly to the firewall/floor and slide it all the way up, then tighten back up. It should now open the throttle body 100% due to the pedal being freed up to move more distance that was not allowed before. This, along with the reset of the accelerator "brain" should take some of the lazy doggyness out of the beast as was reported in other forums.

Free mod, free power.

I thought this was programmed into these trucks for smoother towing. Perhaps you should get a Mustang GT!

fixed mine

One day I switched to 4Low and hit the gas pretty hard when a H*nda sitting next to me revved it a bit. Everything came off the dash, including the dash mat. The rice grinder on my right wondered what the hell happened when this Ford truck took him off the light. At least nothing on it broke.
