Some Updates
It was very sooty, but moved freely. I didnt want to take the chance so I decided to replace it with a new FORD unit with the pink dot. I reinstalled it, cleaned the intake as best I could and drove it. Well it still smokes. Doesnt seem as bad but it does it. I pulled the tune out so I wanted to see the EGR work through the Dash Daq.
While I was at it I decided to update the Fuel Pressure Regulator Spring, it wasnt a bad job but I did have to remove the upper coolant hose and I should have been smart enough to have gotten a new Tstat while I had it apart.
I gues as far as the smoke goes I will have to take it in to the dealer and see whats going on with it. I am almost certain its an injector but I dont have the AE yet and my Mac Mentor wont do a balance test.
Just as a refresher its grey smoke, and stinks like raw diesel to the point it will burn your eyes. Like I said it seems better than it was before the EGR and spring update.
So once I, or the dealer figure this out I will post up the remedy. One thing I may do is keep it stock and sell the SCT, but Im still kicking that one around.

I see you have the Dashdaq with the enhancements. I do not have the enhancements but I did a level 7 scan and it showed a cylinder contribution. Have you logged the data idling? I have been thinking about buying the enhanced license since I got the Dashdaq just for this very thing. I would think it would show one of the cylinders / injectors doing something odd different from the rest. You already have it. What does it show you?

I am also 99% sur eit needs an injector, but I just cant tell whch one. As soon as I do I will get her fixed up and decide what I'm gonna do about the SCT.
I will find out Tuesday whats going on and I'll post it up. If I have to do an injector then it may give me an excuse to update the SCT fitting as well.

P.S. I did buy some Rev-x but so far it hasnt helped. If my friend cant help me out or we cant "see" anything with his software then I may try the sea foam trick. But I dont get to drive the ruck much being a Chief in the FD I have a company vehicle to drive.
I do drive it hard, the turbo will boost normally, no codes, Turbo has been replaced, fuel filters are replaced 2 times a year needed or not. I would have to say I'm probably more **** than most with my maintence.
As far s learning to use my dash daq, I wish I was a little more tech savy but I'm not so if there is someone that would like to help that would be great...you up to schooling me?

First off sorry for not updating this sooner I have been really sick.
I had the Ford tech look the truck over and it got a clean bill of health. We ran several tests on the truck with the Ford Software/Scan Tool and couldnt find anything. Injectors looked good, FICM was fine and had the latest calibration, there were no codes, turbo operated properly...and the kicker is that the truck didnt smoke at all.
So we drove it did several low boost, and high boost launches, we recorded data, and nothing was out of the ordinary. We ran the EGR system test, which apparantly runs other tests in the meantime and all was good.
He told me that if I wanted the new flash, ie the one that monitors ECT/EOT I could have it but I opted out for right now.
For the good stuff, he likes the SCT programing with custom tunes, he was impressed with the Dash Daq, and the only recomendations he came to were at some point look to deleting the EGR and adding a fuel pressure guage.
On another side note, we talked about head gaskets and he said that they are not as common as people make them out to be. He works for one of the busiest dealers up here and is in the heay truck shop so he sees lots of 450' and 550's. he said most of the HG issues are from stuck turbos and people just beating the tar out of there trucks.
If anything else comes up with my situation I will revise this thread for you all.

Glad you are feeling better....
In case you missed it, Partsguyed had a stroke... he is recovering.
I am with you / him re the Head Gasket issue....
Glad to hear your truck is running good. Since my last post on this thread I purchased the Ford Enhanced license to look closer at the cylinder contribution monitoring it showed as an option. After the upgrade I looked at the data and it does not register any data for that PID. Al cylinders showed 0 percent under all conditions. I am going to look into it further but right now, I cannot get it to work. Sad part is, cylinder contribution was the only reason I purchased the enhanced licence. If you want to see everything it is capable of (minus the cylinder contribution) I can help you with that.
