looking to do a cargo area mod

Im looking to do some sort of modification to the back cargo area on the excursion, i rarely have my rear seat in, I am always using it to cary around my welder and tool boxes, carpet always gets destroyed so it is kind of pointless to have carpet back there, my thoughts are to set it up to cary around my tools instead of them sitting back there and sliding around maybe put down some sort of diamond plating ontop of the carpet of course to keep it insulated. Maybe even some sort of bench than i could have that slides in and out on rollers that i can pull out the back of the truck and use as a work bench. Any ideas? submit some picks of mods that you guys have for this type of project.

Thanks all!

I recall seeing pictures of past postings from other members on this forum where they did something similar for camping. You'll need to search back maybe a year ago or so.

Here's a link from a couple months ago for a couple of ideas.
I seem to think there was another once recently, talking
about tool box (try search, limited to excursion forum)
where a bunch of bins was created with plywood in the back
for hold chainsaws and the misc stuff

Here's what I've seen. Came from Ford Excursion

I think it'd be cool to line-x the whole back area

This was the one I was thinking of. It was only about 3 mths ago. It seemed longer for some reason...yet the years seem to fly by faster and faster.

How about using a bedslide designed for a short bed pick-up. I am not sure of the length from the back hatch to the middle seats but it seems that a bedslide would work.

That was mine. It's all out now as I'm no longer in the tree business. I actually even found my 3rd row seat and put it back in. lol

extendo bed makes a nice heavy duty pull out, I've installed these in many vehicles for Fire/ems but would work great for other uses also. There are available with just a plywood surface that you can customize yourself or build a custom unit for you. there not cheap but very heavy duty and the tray will pull just about all the way out so you can access behind it.

I kept a regular rubber truck bed mat in mine, cut the parts that go around the wheel wells, worked great to protect the carpet. Rolls up much easier than plywood when you want to fold up a seat. Dont put a brand new one in there until it airs out, those things will gag you.

Man those rack things are expensive. Probably cheaper and less headache to buy a small trailer or even a beater van. Tons out there for less than $500.
