I was wondering if someone makes a cargo management system for the back of the Excursion. With the third seat out there is alot of room for stuff to rattle around. It would be nice if there were some sort of divider about where the back of the third seat would be. Something that would fold down when you don't need it.
What would be cool is something that would hook into the seat pins in the floor and use the seat belts to hold it upright. I could make something like that if I had some female seatbelt latches. Those would attach to the top of a board and the bottom would have hooks or latches that would go over the pins in the floor.
I could use something like that as well.... I wonder how hard it is to find an old third seat at a salvage yard or for sale and remove the bottom bracket that attaches to the floor and attached that to some sort of shelving units! That way they go in and out pretty easily, are light but are still solid once they are in. I may look in to that!
Not quite what you had in mind but I made this for camping trips. Dont need rear seats anyway. Problem is, with more storage you tend to carry more junk.
Did you make that yourself? I at least need to keep the second row seats. Isn't the whole point of owning an Excursion to carry more junk? We got tired of craming the wife's Subaru to the brim including a roof trunk.
That is the cat's meow for camping. I am in the same boat as far as looking for something to set in the back but I haul a lot of building materials quite often and need to design something to protect the sides and floor while hauling drywall, lumber etc. and be easily removed and stored when more seating is needed. By the way , I have been a member for several months now and bought an 02 2WD EX Ltd back in June and love it. This is one of my first posts here but have been lurking quite often on this great forum. Jim
If price isn't a consideration and you want something custom designed, there is a specialty conversion company that custom designs cabinetry for all kinds of applications.
I made it during the summer. It's in two pieces so either one can be removed and the seats installed. I mounted a 3000 watt power invertor in one compartment. It gives me 9' to stretch out plus room for three dogs and it's good for hauling plywood and such. Only lost about 5-6" of headroom. I also pulled the front pass seat and mounted a two door refrigerator .
Good job on your camper conversion. Sounds like you are pretty self contained. I plan on pulling the camper behind the truck. We may do some camping in the Excursion till I get a pull behind. I need to get rid of my popup slide in camper that I no longer have a truck for. I have a 5x8 covered trailer that I plan on pulling behind full of camping gear.
