Hi all,
sorry to dig this thread up again - however, I found it VERY useful! I have only just purchased my 2002 F250 XLT. It has a single DIN radio/CD player in it - that works fine. However, due to the hundreds of cassettes I have (yes, I'm that old), I'd like to swap it out for a cd/cassette/radio. There are plenty online (ebay etc), however it is of course double DIN. Am i correct in assuming I can swap these straight out (removing existing single din radio and 'shelf' underneath) and that the plug that connects to single din radio , speakers connections etc are the same? Just trying to do research before I proceed. thank you.
You might have to do a little trimming if you are putting in a double din. As far as the harness/connecter goes, the brand of radio dictates the cable that attaches from the radio to the harness/connecter (usually comes with the radio).
Just look for a radio harness for your model of truck...prob the same for all years 99-2003. Crutchfield is pretty helpful with that.
I'm pretty sure these trucks only came from the factory with a double din unit, no? If it has a din unit, it was probably replaced. If this is true, then you could just remove the install kit and go back to stock.
