Decided on a predator.

TT Jon Lund who does the tuning on my Mustang. Turns out he wrote the tunes that are on the Predator and he had one laying around.

I'm pretty confident in his tuning ability, he is one of the best in the business.

Now if the 10th would get here i'd be real happy!

7.3 is easy to tune, the 4r100 isn't.

i won't change any of the pressures in the trans. Gregg rebuilt my trans and I have one of his valve bodies.

As far as tuning it, I raced lightnings to 10.7's with 4r100's and never had an issue with the tuning.

[COLOR=black][FONT=Verdana]Its funny I came across this post. Is there anything we can do to make our trucks get with it on the tranny side. I know most tuners quicken up the shift but don't raise line pressure like in my mustang (auto) it raises the line pressure when it shifts under throttle(WOT I beleive). and I'm not into the hard shift crap that occurs just from quicking up the shift. I would like it when towing if the thing would get goin and lock up faster with out having to mess with an expensive box or lock up switch. I don't like when my wife drives that she has to have a lesson on how to drive the thing when you should have a tune with some finesse and our 7.3l auto don't have that. How can they have that any inputs???

I went with DP tuner, and there is a world of difference in the power!! Also, Jody was very helpful when I was contemplating a purchase. Gave advice, didn't try to sell me something I didn't need or wouldn't use.... so
now I use the Predator as a code-reader.

I traded my old Predator for a newer unit some time back, and as I prepped my Excursion for the new California smog check, I removed the DP Tuner, and tried out the "new & improved" Predator. It set my PATS, so I couldn't drive the Ex without disabling the PATS. Asked lots of questions on their support forum, and got absolutely NO help! DP Tuner put more effort in trying to solve the problem than the manufacturer! I had to go to the dealer, and have my PCM reflashed (read expensive). Then I e-mailed the invoice to DS, and sat on hold for ~ 20 minutes to reset the Predator.

If you are dead-set on running the Predator, pm me. I'll sell you mine!!

I am going to send this thread to Stewart. He used to race Lightnings and he had a Predator on his truck. It's in a box now that he has both his F250 and his Ex DP Tuned.

I am a firm believer in Gregg Evans / Factory Tech's valve body. This is my first diesel, but i've drag raced 2 different lightnings. The first one was a regular 4r100 with his valve body and 0 changes in shift pressure. I drove the truck 30,000 miles the first year I had it, with probably 200+ quarter mile passes on it, and it didn't blink an eye.

The 2nd one I did one of his monster boxes and that truck made 800 ft/lbs at the wheels. Again, no issure running the truck into the 10.7 range. Very very nice. I just had him do a valve body for my truck and do a rebuild on the trans and the first thing he said again was when I tune the truck, do not let them mess with the shift pressure.

After talking with Jon Lund, he told me I would be able to set the shift pressure wherever I wanted with the predator, which is nice. The truck is shifting killer right where it is now.

I don't see a whole lot of love for his stuff on this board. But he's local, and has never let me down, and has built from what he said around 34,000 4r100's.

Thanks,

been a good year for only making a couple races, mention in the last 2 5.0's, pics in the last to MMFF's, and the last 3 race pages.

Hopefully NMRA World finals coverage will have stuff in 5.0 and MMFF due out in a couple weeks too.

I'll be running the whole NMRA series next year in the SST class, hoping to bring home a ring!

I ordered mine from Lund direct, if I need any support i'm sure I won't have a problem getting any.

As far as more power, who says that is a good thing?

I tt my local diesel shop the other day, and mentioned I was thinking about going with a DP and he said he'd smack me upside the head if I did. He's had several customers with blown stock motors with DP chips he said. Don't know the people personally, this is just what he told me.

He asked who was doing my Mustang tuning, and when I told him Lund Racing, he said I should call him, that he has been doing diesels for a long time and was pretty sure he developed the tune thats on the Predator.

Jon confirmed this for me, and that's good enough for me. I don't need the most power, I need a truck that is going to last. I have my Mustang for Racing.

You can always make more power, but that is not my need for this truck, to have the fastest daily driver / tow truck around.

I was talking to my buddy in the service depatment at my local Ford dealer. They have had several customers blow up stock motors with stock tuning...

Maybe you should have bought a Duramax...

Forgive me if I seem to be attacking you directly. Let me explain

Like you, I am an active member of other forums. One thing I know, this place is special. There is a different culture here. We are family. We have gotten together and paid other's truck payments. We have held E-bedside vigils over dying friends. We have taken collections to get a broken down member back on the road far from home.

We have prayed together, played together, cried together, and rejoiced together. We have built a Brotherhood. A family. We add to this family all the time.

So forgive me if when a guy with less than 90 posts comes in and tells us all we are wrong and he is right, if I don't welcome you with open arms.

My apoligies, more like 160 posts and here 4 years longer than you, but thats ok,

Waiting for the mods to merge my info together. When I registered years ago, for some reason, my username that i've always used didn't work. And now it is.

I may not post much, haven't had alot of need to, as I haven't had a diesel for a while, but i've always lurked.

So, again, sorry for not praying to the DP gods,

And let me be clear, i'm not saying there is anything wrong with them, I've just chosen a different route at this time.

Never said I was right, and you were wrong. Simply have my own opinion, again, sorry for not being a sheep.
