manual tranny problem

hey everyone...i have a 98 ranger xlt 5 speed...the five speed only came with the 4 cylinder I believe...a few weeks back I lent it to a friend..he got drunk..slid out into a field...he must have been rocking it back and forth and somehow smoked the clutch out of it...it has about 60,000 miles on it. I pulled it out and put a new clutch assembly throwout bearing pilot bearing and I resurfaced the flywheel. it ran fine until last night. I was messing around and dumped it pretty hard into first and then powered shifted it into a wheel hoppin second ( hey their made to abuse) anyways right after I slowed it down and pulled up to a stop. this is where my problem started. I put it into first and it made a wicked squeling noise. i stopped immediatly tried again..same story. so I kept going and put it into second and it stopped..hasn't done it since..I don't think it was the clutch because I tried to get it to slip and I couldn't but I'm worried about what it was....
any ideas?

Well, since it's a new clutch, and hadn't had any break-in miles on it, I'm guessing that you beating it just glazed the disk a little. No biggie. From the sounds of it, slipping the clutch when engaging second was enough to clean it off.
I wouldn't worry about it unless it happens again. Then again, it's not my truck.

I have a '99 4X4 3.0 that does the same thing from time to time. Ford has a service bulletin regarding this that says it's caused by a vibration and not to worry about it. However, the bulletin goes on to say that there are replacement clutch parts available if the truck owner wants them.
