Southbend Clutch

I posted some pictures last night to show what my southbend clutch set up looked like when I removed it - thread about "can't shift into reverse/first"

I called them and Manseil asked me lots and lots of questions to diagnose the problem. He sent me an RMA number to return the clutch disk to them, at their cost. And, he is going to "refresh" it. The pilot bushing wear is likely an input shaft issue (bearing) so I will have to fix that and buy a new bushing. I thought it was good customer service on their part for a guy who is the second owner of the clutch and I appreciate it.

Can't wait to put the truck back in service...

Seems like real good service to me if you didn't even buy the clutch.

I'm a die hard Valair guy. But I will tell you that Peter and Southbend have a good clutch and good customer service. I would say that's outstanding for not even buying the clutch. I hope it all works out for you. It sounds like they got you covered.

I did, and replaced the bushings in the pedal box when this problem started. I have learned a lot about the truck in this deal and a lot by reading the posts in response to my questions and many from the past. Thanks very much for all the help.

Good deal with the south bend guys. It's good to hear they will do something like that.

I'm with Rubberduck though. Hardcore Valair.

The disk was cupped toward the flywheel, the metal side of the clutch. They knew what it was almost as soon as I described the symptom. So even though the pressure plate was trying to release it, it was dragging. That clutch is probably not the right one for me backing a trailer all the time. Forward/Reverse/Forward - I just got it hot.

It was a dang good setup, and not down the drain - they are fixing it for only the cost of shipping, but straight organic this time. Not too many businesses would step up like this. I am impressed.

Now into the transmission - got some worn synchros, and a couple other deals.
