I was working on a friend of my dads late 70's f700 with a 429 truck engine. I noticed that the bolt pattern on trans looked very close to the ford IDI pattern. mabe ford picked that bolt pattern to use on the idi. I was wandering mabe somebody on here might have a 429 truck engine laying around that could measure and see.
I have to say I think the 390 FE is the best engine ford ever built.
I would take a 390 over a 460 any day.
My 65 352 FE with a 2 barrel Motorcraft 2100 with manual choke and a points ignition is the most reliable truck I know of...well, maybe neck and neck with my IDI.
I don't even want to know how much power a 390 with a 4 barrel and headers will make....but I'm gonna find out in about 100k miles when I rebuild my 352 into a 390!
