Hey Ya'll....
Here's a weird one I'd like to run by ya. I just bought an AutoXray 2500 code reader for myself for Christmas and have a slight problem. There is no communication to my PCM in the Bronco! The code reader gives the generic communication error. I then tested all the pins on the EEC (electronic engine control) -IV connector - aka a DLC - Data Link Connector and have NOTHING on any pin!!! No voltage an anything. Now my PCM (power control module) , the "brain" must be functional as the engine runs great and the test lights (ABS etc) come on and then go out. The "check engine" light may come on periodically or not (which is why I bought the AutoXray) but how the hell can I have no voltage on any pin of the DLC and yet the PCM is functional? What could cause the DLC to have NO voltage, ergo, connectivity??
Yall's thoughts are appreciated! Oh, BTW....I did make sure the code reader works perfectly on my buddies Toyota Corolla. (He needs a new catalytic converter!) LOL
Spoke to AutoXray just now and the tech stated that this is a problem with Fords! The harness gets susceptible to heat and grime and fails. There should be at least 12 volts to one of the 6 pins and they are all dead. If a continuity test shows the wires to be okay, then it means my PCM is toast. Oh great....there's $180!! Hope it's just a short!
