maybe down under in the land of Oz it's ok if you told someone you "got some extra nuts", but here in the states if you said that, you would be put on display in a circus freak show.

Thanks, Dave. I wuz followin the thread tryin to figer out the future of my front end.

I put a '70 on a '77 frame for the D44 and discs (& big bearing rear for disc conversion, heaver chassy, power ster. stuff, fuel flipper doors, n main/aux poly tanks [C4 I'm not usin @ dis point]). Not sure U know these lill bobtails. Anyway it's taken 3 or 4 rigs to make this one, been over my head these 27 yrs w/it as a low/no income non-mechanic/body/elec/upolst/glass/exh/etc (U know the story) man. The PO bent up the '77 tie rods somehow. Will put the "T" style linkage outta the '70 TRO (as an inherently stronger system - can't afford the dome/rod end typical mod). They tell me I need f150 knuckles or there will B back spacing probs. for the TRO, wheel n calipers.

Wanna get on the F250 8 lugs for the U joints & to use the smallest Bud wheel. Been told "U need to take" the spindle, hub/rotor, axle and calipers from mid 70s (some say to '75 others say to '77). I'd shorten & respline the axles. (Same 4 eight lug rears). Do NOT want those huge breaks, tho. Wonder if I can hang the lill bronk caipers on that system. Just need to figer all the fitment issues out B 4 hand (& w/o knowledge/theory/skill/tools/money).
Nothing in the junk yrds around here (10 y/o and older - to the crusher!). And no (johnny) cash to buy n test out a mess a parts till I find something.

I don't think just swapping to 8 lug outers will get u bigger u joints. I thought that the all the D44s had same size u joints. With exception of some of the early ones with drum breaks

Yeah, for 2 of the last 7 yrs of the D44 in the bronk ('66-70 wuz a D30) discs in front (76&7 only); some D44 were in a few rears (heeps 4 1); 66 -77 Bronks (what's that ?a 1/4 tun - 3/4 tun hybrid?) & later FSB; 1/2 tun, 3/4 tun n may B 1 tun p/u; both seen in disc n drum breaks...

I think the U joint in mine is tiny compared to the 5-297x or 5-760x, forget the monsters like CTM n others, none of which i'll fit it. But the swap (8 lug) is also for the 16" wheel, albeit the smallest Bud made. (back to the innie/outtie comment above, I like the way it looks: out @ frnt, in @ back).

It all seems well thought out w/the '73 - 5 or 9 prts (should find out which), I have a machinest friend, cept for my dislike of the big calpers on a lill bronk (added cost/need/looks) and how it'll fit w/f150 knucks. Not sure of all/exact prts needed either. Fitment n parts... same ol story 4 me.

Then, even longer term (gotta do it incrementally due to short cash) is what to change in the D44 for a cheep locker. Don't wanna respline axles again but by then may need the moser, yukons or chrome molys anyway. Long way off, gettin a job offa the acreage's 1st!
