Help with part ID

I was at my buddys junk yard on monday and stumbled on a 300 I6 with a factory 90% oil filter adapter. It is a ford part I believe. The numbers on it are C5TE 6884 A then under that is .CAL.7 I am trying to find out what it came on so I can get new gaskets for it.I am thinking it will hold oil in the filter better than the stock set up. any help is appriceated. chris

Get some gasket material and make your own, its not too difficult with a sharp xacto knife or a razor blade knife and some patience.
For some reason it seems you can only get these gaskets in a complete gasket set.

The C5AZ6840A gasket is the same for all 1965/74 240 & 1965/96 300 I-6's, including 1965/72 240 Passenger Cars.

Any parts store should have it....but, this C5TZ6881A 240/300 I-6 oil filter adapter will not fit an FE engine, or anything else.

The following is correct for FE F100/350's (but not Passenger Cars):

C5TZ6881B .. FE Oil Filter Adapter / The filter itself mounts horizontally / 1965/76 F100/350 352/360/390 / Mounting gasket: COAZ6A636A = ALL 1958/76 FE's.

FE Passenger Cars used a different adapter, the filter mounts vertically...but this adapter should not be used on an F100/350.

If the filter is mounted vertically, and the left engine mount should break (which is kinda common), the filter will hit the crossmember and split open. Not pleasant!

And tryin' to change a vertically mounted filter on an F100/350 can be a b!tch, because there is little space between the filter and the engine crossmember.

If you do have a vertically mounted oil filter on an F100/350, install a FL300 oil filter.

This filter is the same as the FL1A, but is shorter. It was designed for and used in 1975/78 Mustang II's w/a 302...which had very little space in the engine compartment.

FYI: You contacted PartsGuyEd, he sent your request to me, because C5AZ6840A is obsolete, as Ford replaced it with permatex.

If you want genuine Ford, see Mike's sources in post #6, and > >

YADKIN VALLEY FORD in North Wilkesboro NC has 3 = 336-838-4155.

Sorry to bring back an older thread but I also have an adapter like what the original poster has. Local parts stores dont have them & one store would have to email about the price for one. The FelPro number is: P70082

Called my local dealership & they gave me 3 dealerships that had them in stock:

Morlan Shell Ford
West Plains, MO
(417)256-3195
Shows 7 in stock & the fella had 3 or 4 in hand when I was on the phone. $2.00ea

Bob Allen Ford
Overland Park, KS
(913)381-2999
Didnt call but my dealer said they had them.

Red Taylor Ford
Corning, Ar
(870)857-3518
They had 4 in stock until I bought them about 20 minutes ago.

The seal under the bolt head is an A/C part I got from Bumper to Bumper since it was the only thing Rob could find that would work. #24355 The oring that seals between the bolt & housing is 3/4"id x 15/16"od x 3/32"cs.

The threads where the filter screw onto are a bit long but I didnt want to mess them up anymore than I had to. When I got home I checked it with a FL1A & it screwed down just fine.

Am I misreading this, or is the 90* adapter its self obsolete too?

if not, or you guys can point me in the direction of where to find one...i'd be appreciative...As stated in another thread...The horizonal fitment lets oil run back out of the filter when it sits, and especially when changing filters......
So it'd be a plus on my part, as IMO, it would be a cinch to change then...Which it is any ways...But even more so....

Im sure its an obsolete part since Ford stop build 300I6s. There is/was one made that I saw somewhere in a catalog. Cant remember it its Ford or aftermarket.

Junkyards & yards with Econolines.

As far as the oil drain back, I think it builds pressure fast but couldnt tell you since all I have in the truck is an idiot gauge.

Ok then...OEM/Aftermarket....Doesn't matter....I just like a tidy a oil change....

Seems like a worthwhile endeavor....But sadly, there's no Econolines around here anymore...Either still running or crushed....

And who'd a thunk it....Us hillbillies gettin' rid of our yard ornaments....

Now we'll have to decorate the outhouse a tad more...
