Ok, you will need to repin definitely. I will try and get you the schematic back tonight if possible. You will will need to go ahead and remove the tcc solenoid from your old transmission. Also, if there is a little metal grounding bracket that touches the shift solenoids... you will possibly need that as well. You can then carefully remove the '98 TCC solenoid. Careful prying/disconnecting the plastic power/control circuit board as you do not want to break it. Once you get it removed, go ahead and remove the '98 TCC solenoid. Notice whether the solenoid has a metal plate that grounds solenoids or if you are going to have to reuse the "old metal grounding plate that you removed the '95 TCC solenoid." Bottomline is there needs to be a ground connection between the TCC and the shift solenoids. Now compare the 2 solenoids. You will notice that the plug terminals are exposed on the '98 solenoid. You will need to carefully trim the plastic housing around the plug terminals on the '95 solenoid to make it look like the '98. It is kind of self explanatory once you begin comparing the two. You just need to make sure it's trimmed enough that when you begin plug the plastic circuit board back in that it makes good contact with the solenoid terminals. Again, it will all make more sense once you start working on it. The other thing I would recommend is to remove your transmission harness completely from the truck. It disconnects up on the driver side fenerwell and removes fairly easily. This will make the repinning much easier.

...Sorry, I need to make a correction... The male plug in the wiring harness is white, but the female plug on the tranns is black... Yeah, I was pretty tired last night when I posted that... Oh! and the male plug in my harness is white...

Yeah...I think I know what you meant. I couldn't recall right off hand. Old tranny had white female plug on transmission case and new tranny has a black female plug on transmission case. Also, you will notice the new black female plug on case will have two less pins than your current white female plug. No worries...this will be taken care of when you rewire the harness. The old tranny has 3 power input wires, the new transmission only requires 1 power input wire....the other 2 will be moved to pins that are not connected to anything. On the new trans the circuit board splits the one incoming power input into 3 separate signals, thus no need for additional input power wires. More to follow......

Here you go. I noticed a slight mistype the orange cell in the factory connector is pin 6, not pin 2 and in the repin connector is it pin 8 not pin 2. Match repin the colors and you are good. In other words pin that is orange in factory pinning needs to go to new location on repin that is orange. Same goes for all colors. That is the only typo I see. Also PIN 7 and 8 on the original can go to 9 and 10 on the repin, but they are not used....again, match colors.

So, along the lines of running a newer 4R70W in an older truck; I just picked up a 98 Ranger 4x4 with an 01 Explorer 5.0, trans and wiring harness (engine and trans) already installed, and is 'running' a 97 Explorer ECU. The PO stopped driving it due to the transmission not shifting correctly and was not able to figure out why.

If I understand the above information, all I have to do for this ECU to control the transmission correctly, is change the 01 TCC to a 95-97 TCC and I shouldn't have to mess with the wiring/re-pinning...correct? Of course, that is assuming there aren't any pin differences at the ECU plug. I don't have EVTM's for either the 98 ranger or the 01 explorer yet, so I can not compare them.

I was thinking of using the complete 01 Explorer harness in it, as I want to add the center console, overhead console, lighted mirrors (int and ext), int dome light, the matching PATS components and what ever else I can swap over...either that or start piggy backing everything.

Thank you!

...Sorry for taking so long between posts, it's been pretty crazy around here... The trans works great!! There are a couple of things though. 1. After installing the trans, it wouldn't shift right, then I realized the shift cable coming from the tree was too short for the new application, it wasn't letting the trans go into park and reverse... After I fabricated a couple brackets to set the cable an inch to the rear, all is well!! Shifts fine now... 2. The stupid O/D light on the shifter won't quit blinking!! ...Did I over look something, or is this destined to happen? Is there any way to shut the light off? ...And again thanks for all of the help!!

Glad to hear it worked out...I think I swapped brackets on mine so I didn't have that problem. O/D Light shouldn't blink. Mine blinks when the #8 fuse is blown in fuse panel. Check your #8 fuse. I could tell a BIG difference in the performance of the newer 4r70w.
