Does anyone know where I can find a spacer plate for an 89 7.3L to ZF5 transmission? The plate I need is approx. 1" thick.
Are you talking about the adapter that bolts to the engine? It's about 1" thick and is cast iron that also mounts the starter. If so that isn't trans specific, as long as you get it off a Ford 6.9/7.3 International Diesel.
Just to hook up the International/Navistar engine to a Ford transmission. It is common practice on diesel motors to do that, especially when the motor is used in different applications. Instead of casting different bell housings on the block, all they have to do is bolt different adapters to the block. The IDI's were used in both the ford light duty and medium duty trucks, as well as in some IH medium duty trucks. I'm not certain if the V8 motors that showed up in some IH tractors were also the IDI or not. Fairly limited number of those though. Every tractor we have has an adapter on it for use in other applications. Tractors had a different plate than combines due to the different mounting and drive systems as well. I have a combine motor in our shop that all I would have to do is a few changes and I could plant it in a tractor, if the crank wasn't shot... it was all about interchangability.
