hey guys just wondering if any one has tried puttin a stereo system in there truck im thinkin bout getting a cd player new speakers and a subwoofer and how hard it will be to wire up thanks for the help in advance
I just put an alpine system in my truck. New head unit, new 5.5" rounds in the front and 5x7 in the back. All of these parts fit into the stock locations and I used the stock wiring + a wiring harness for the receiver. It works and sounds GREAT. My next step is to install an amp under the bench and then a boxed sub in the back seat. I am gonna get the sub in a box and make it switchable and easy detach in case I need to put some gear in the back seat. Go to Best Buy and ask them. Even if you don't buy your stuff from them they will still tell you what will fit and what won't. 6x9's will definitely not fit in the stock holes in the rear, 5x7 is all that works back there. I have an extended cab but I am pretty sure the holes are all the same in all of our trucks.
its not hard at all bud just make sure that the new head unit has plug ports for you amps for your subs, speakers are easy as well one in each door 6 1/2 iirc and one 5x7 in the rear cab corners at least mine did in the 94
ok well in my truck iv only seen teh two in the doors i have a single cab like you coalroller so ill get those two speakers and i found lo profile subs that can go behind my seat that are only 50 bucks on ebay with free shipping so i wanted to go that way and i found a cd player at a local pawn shop lol
No special tools required to pull these head units, at least on the 87-91's. The trim piece around it and the heater controls just pulls off, then there are 4 screws either side of the head unit for mounting. There is a 'track' above them that a plastic bracket slides along as well, it supports the back of the unit from shaking etc. Some replacement units won't have the mounting holes for that plastic bracket to mount on, but if you do, best to use it if you can.

The above is spot on. Also I installed a Pioneer in my 87 and used the adapter plug harness so there was no cutting of wires. I did though have to add wires from the adapter plug to the rear speaker box behind the rear seat. No big deal.
ford went to the special clips to remove them when they made the interior change in 92. I just used four pop rivets in mine when i removed it. Get the adapters that clip into the factory harness dont just cut the factory clips off i have had several cars that people have done that to.
wally world sells the adapter kits and they work very well. Mine is a hacked job right now and will replaced this week. I am tired of the crappy reception and loose wires. I found a good jvc deck for 40 on the local forsale site. I thought the door speakers were the 6.5" not the 5.5" i know the rear ones are 5x7 tho.
do you just take the door panel off for the soeakers?
Yes, for front speakers unscrew the doorpanel and pop it off and set it aside. You'll see the speakers and the 4 screws holding them in. I replaced mine with IIRC 5" round Sony Xplode's. They have a built in tweeter and actually sound really good, especially compared to stockers and they fit right in with NO cutting of sheetmetal.
